Ilyas ibn Mudhar (Arabic: إلياس بن مضر) was the son of Mudhar ibn Nizar, an ancestor of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Life

His real given name was Habib and his mother's name was Rabab. He was known for his piety and wisdom and become head of his tribe after the demise of his father. He was called by the titles Kabir al-Qawm (Chief of the Folk) and Sayyid al-Ashirah (Master of the Clan), while he was greatly respected as a strong follower of the Abrahamic traditions.[1]

Near the end of his life, he suffered from tuberculosis and passed away due to it. Upon his death, his wife Layla bint Halwan left to the forest and spent her time crying and wailing for him. Particularly on Thursdays which was the day Ilyas died, she would recite eulogies in her husband's memory.

He left behind three sons namely Amr, Amir and Umayr; however they were more famously known as Mudrikah, Tabaqah and Qamhah respectively.
